A platinum print is an object of beauty and not a reproduction. It is not a digital snapshot destined for social media consumption. It is a unique work of art.
Platinum printing is one of the rarest and most enduring photographic processes ever developed. Unlike modern photographic prints, which rely on inks or dyes sitting on the surface of paper, platinum prints are made using precious metals that become physically embedded within the fibers of the paper itself.
This fundamental difference changes how the photograph exists. The image is not applied to the paper. It becomes part of it. There is no gloss, no reflective layer, and no separation between image and material. What remains is a matte, luminous object with a presence that feels closer to a drawing or an etching than a contemporary photographic reproduction.
Why Platinum Prints Look Different
Collectors often describe platinum prints as having a calm depth that is difficult to reproduce photographically or digitally. This quality comes from several factors:
Rather than demanding attention, platinum prints invite it. Their character emerges slowly and continues to reveal itself over time.
Permanence and Longevity
Platinum is one of the most stable metals known. When used in photographic printing, it creates images that are extraordinarily resistant to fading, discoloration, and environmental degradation.
Under proper care, platinum prints are expected to last for generations. Each print often exceeds one hundred years without noticeable change. For this reason, the process has long been favored by museums and collectors who value not only visual quality, but long-term preservation.
No two prints are identical. Prints that fail to meet strict standards of tonal balance and material integrity will immediately be destroyed by me. There will be no chance of them leaking out in the future as “work up” prints that I’ve seen elsewhere.
This discipline is central to my work. The process allows only a small number of finished prints to exist.
Limited Editions and Scarcity
All works are produced as limited editions. Once an edition is complete, no further prints are made from that image. Each platinum print is:
This structure ensures clarity, fairness, and long-term value for collectors.
